There are dozens of options for those interested in training Muay Thai in Thailand. Most of the information you need to decide what the perfect gym is for you is available online and within the Muay Thai community outlets. For the majority of enthusiasts that come to Thailand, embracing the sport to its fullest is achievable in the capital city of Bangkok. With tons of gear stores, the world-famous Lumpinee and Rajadamnern Stadiums, and Muay Thai performances at Asiatique and Show DC, The “City of Angels” remains as a premier destination to go on a Muay Thai vacation. We’ve broken down the typical itinerary that we plan for all of our Muay Thai Package customers to give you an idea of what you can do with two weeks in Bangkok, training at Khongsittha.
Arrival
It’s about 8 PM and you’ve just landed at Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK), after a brief stop through immigration to get accepted into the Land of Smiles, you head over to baggage claim and grab your stuff. You purchased your two-week package with food about a month before arriving, and we sent you our Muay Thai Package Guide with detailed instructions to the gym that you hand over to your airport taxi driver. After a 30-40 minute ride, you’ve arrived at Kiatthada House and Resort, our accommodation partner located directly behind the gym.
After a quick check-in, you head to your room and you can finally relax. The TV contains a ton of international news channels, and our guest favorite, Fight Network, which runs all martial arts television shows. Get some rest, because training starts the next morning at 8:30 am.
Your Mornings
The run ranges between 3km to 5km, followed by padwork and bagwork. Check out the video below to give you an idea of what training is like at Khongsittha.
After your training session, hop back to your room to take a shower and head over to Cafe Reverie, our partner restaurant right in our front parking lot. There are a wide variety of food choices, and your food coupons include a drink as well.
Your Evenings
Hit up the afternoon training session at 4:15pm and you’ll finally feel how hot it can get in Thailand. After 15 minutes of jump rope, put on your wraps, shadowbox, and go into pads and bags. The afternoon sessions at Khongsittha typically feature sparring, boxing, clinching, and technical work, depending on the day.
After training, take your shower and head to Reverie for dinner. If you’re feeling adventurous, there are numerous food options around the gym for you to try out.
The options for things to do outside of the gym are almost endless. Bangkok is one of the largest cities in Southeast Asia, and there’s never a dull night. Truly a city that does not sleep.
MX Muay Extreme
Bored on a Friday Night? Head over to Asok Road and watch Muay Thai with MMA gloves. MX Muay Extreme is a two year old promotion that focuses on quick, exciting fights, no clinching, and very small gloves. Khongsittha regularly sends their fighters to this promotion, and the venue is in the GMM Building, a 20 minute walk from the Sukhumvit BTS station.
Lumpinee
The New Lumpinee Stadium is a 20 minute drive from the gym, and hosts some of the best Muay Thai fighters in the world. Sit ringside for 1500 baht, or sit in the stands for about 500 baht on most days.
Rajadamnern
The oldest stadium in Thailand, Rajadamnern is where the best of the best do battle every other day. Walk around the stadium and see where history has been made countless times, and see the preparation room, where the liniment oil permeates the air and fighters as young as 12 years old prepare for war.
Above 11 Rooftop Bar
Fancy a view of the Bangkok city skyline? Above 11 has two floors and is known as being a great place to drink, dance, and look at the clouds in the sky. Located on Sukhumvit Soi 11, this rooftop bar is a guest favorite.
Fancy Dinner at Bunker
If you’re into culinary delights and want to see some high-end dining options that Bangkok offers, start off with Bunker, located on Sathorn Soi 12. This establishment started two years ago, with Chef Arnie Marcella running the kitchen and Andreas Pergher handling all requests and everything wine. The menu changes often every season, and dinner for two with wine will run about 6000 THB.
Visit Khao Sarn Road
Khao Sarn Road is the backpacker and nomad road of Bangkok. Here, you will find loads of hostels, dive bars, restaurants, and clubs of your choosing. In addition, fried scorpions, Redbull tank tops, and street buskers are all the other things to enjoy while on this infamous road.
Iron Fairies Bar
One of the famous bars on Soi Thonglor, this steampunk is the culmination of engineer Ashley Sutton’s mind. This manifestation houses fairies, fairy dust, a dark ambiance, and unique cocktails. This is a 30-minute taxi ride from the gym, and with live music every night, any night is a good time to check out this unique bar.
JJ Market
The largest weekend market in Bangkok, Jatujak Market holds virtually everything you could possibly imagine. From Persian cats to used Volkswagen Beetles, pretty much everything can be bought or bartered for here. Walk around and come here around the end of your Muay Thai vacation in order to pick up some trinkets and souvenirs for people back home.
If you hit up each of these activities every other day for two weeks, you will have made the most of your trip to Bangkok. Of course, these are only a small handful of the millions of other activities to be done. This is just what the majority of Khongsittha guests do while staying with us.
It’s now the end of your journey. You’re tired and sore from training, but not only have you improved loads at Muay Thai, you’ve also experienced the wonderful city of Bangkok with our help!
